PROGNOSIS
Performance Monitoring and Alerting
The flagship product offering from Integrated Research, the PROGNOSIS application suites provide performance monitoring, alerting, and management capabilities for multiple server platforms; including Windows, UNIX/Linux, and HP NonStop. In addition to these core offerings, the vendor also provides a PROGNOSIS platform specifically for IP Telephony, Web Applications, and ATM / POS Monitoring.
PROGNOSIS provides monitoring and alerting features for IT administrators, allowing them to receive and view real-time performance information from servers throughout their networks. The product relies on a distributed, as opposed to agent-based architecture; information can be viewed and analyzed from any node via a Web browser interface. According to the vendor, thousands of objects are monitored, including CPUs, disks, memory, jobs, processes, and TCP/IP connections. Viewing and analysis capabilities include built-in displays, charts, and graphs; and viewed metrics can be refined by way of filters and thresholds.
Performance alerts can be based on user-defined ranges. When triggered, such alerts are delivered via E-mail, pager, mobile/cellular phone. The vendor notes that rules-based automation allows for the handling of common tasks.
The core offerings in the PROGNOSIS arsenal are PROGNOSIS for Windows / UNIX / Linux, and PROGNOSIS for HP NonStop. Each offers individual components targeted to the platform in question; such as the Application Development Interface (allowing developers to create PROGNOSIS-based custom integrations with existing applications) available in all platforms; Application Server Management (measures J2EE application performance) available for the Windows / Linux / UNIX product; and the MQ Manager, Hardware Manager, and Dynamic Load Balancing components among the over 20 tools available in the PROGNOSIS for HP NonStop suite. (See the vendor's Web site for full details between the individual suites and their specific components offered.)
New in PROGNOSIS is pending support for HP's Integrity NonStop NB50000c BladeSystem, currently in Beta testing.
