FileData Classifier / FileData Manager

Scan, Classify, and Act on Stored Files

Abrevity's FileData products provide the ability to discover, classify, and apply scheduled movement actions to files on CIFS or NFS (optionally) storage media. The products are currently offered in two flavors: FileData Classifier, and FileData Manager.

FileData Classifier provides the main discovery, classification, and file management engine; providing the ability to locate files on any CIFS/NFS file system, including desktops. Files are discovered and their metadata extracted for further classification and management purposes. Such metadata includes attributes provided by CIFS/NFS itself (name, directory, size, type, etc.) as well as user-selectable criteria and content visibility components based on key words or phrases located within the files themselves (the vendor notes that hundreds of common file types are supported). Boolean queries and searches for the location of data are also supported.

Discovered data is then classified with user defined labels, with found files matching the selection criteria "Tagged" such they can be later referred to as a group via their tagged classification. Tags bear descriptive names for the collected files, such as "Tier 1," "Critical," "Compliance," etc. The vendor states that new tags can be created "within seconds."

Automation (scheduling) capabilities rely on the product's ability to discover and classify files; and include the discovery/classification process itself as well as file movement actions (automatically moving selected files to a different storage tier, for example). When files are moved by the platform, shortcuts are left behind in the previous location so that the file can still be referred to through it; and audit trails are additionally created for archived files.

Finally, reporting is available enabling the viewing of file collections by any combination of boolean attributes, including metadata collected by the discovery process and specified file content. Reports can be output to text or Excel; while visual reports can ge generates as GIF, JPG, Excel, or HTML.

FileData Manager serves as the global controller of multiple FileData Classifier nodes; enabling distributed enterprises to use FileData Classifier on the local level while maintaining policy and aggregated data viewing from a central location. FileData Manager provides a single view of data as discovered/classified from multiple FileData Classifiers, with only status and statistics transported over the WAN to the FileData Manager.

FileData Manager and FileData Classifier are available now. Standard bundle pricing is $29,995 for the FDM and 2 FDCs and includes 5TB of storage managed. Additional TBs or FDCs are $2,995. Support for NFS file systems is separately priced at $995.
